Music In Stitches
Nov 2013
Newbury Embroiderers’ Guild has just completed a major new project entitled ‘Music In Stitches’. Members were asked to choose a piece of music that was special to them and to interpret it in stitch. We included every type of music imaginable: classical, folk, ballads, pop, hymns, jazz, songs from the shows, nothing was off limits!
We have used a variety of techniques: machine embroidery, gold work, laminating, beading, bonding, appliqué, photo transfer, dyeing and of course lots of hand stitching.
The work has taken some two years to complete and now comprises 30 pieces. These were displayed at the Watermill Theatre in Bagnor near Newbury during August 2013 and then at the Corn Exchange in the centre of Newbury until January 4th 2014.
The image above was created by Susan Lane and was inspired by the piece of music 'Romeo and Juliet' by Dire Straits.
